For the week of August 8th to August 14th, the Comox Valley RCMP responded to 13 calls for theft from vehicles. Items taken from these vehicles included a laptop, camping gear, cash/change, a digital camera, license plates, bags of cans and bottles, and a purse. The Comox Valley RCMP is asking that if this occurs to you, please report it, so the crime statistics can be as accurate as possible, but please lock your car doors. The majority of these thefts can be deterred, simply by locking your doors and not leaving anything of value in your vehicle.
From August 8th to August 14th, the Comox Valley RCMP received eight reports of stolen bicycles. The following bikes are still outstanding:
August 8th – Fluorescent blue children’s bike, unknown make (2017-11250)
August 9th – Grey 2015 Kona Dew 18 speed bike with a Simons Cycle Sticker (2017-11291)
August 11th – Grey and black Giant 21 speed mountain bike with a basket (2017-11437)
August 11th– Blue Nakamura Monster 21 speed mountain bike (2017-11447)
August 11th—Black and blue Nakamura Monster 21 speed Mountain bike with a square frame and damaged front brakes (2017-11447)
August 12th— Back and white Giant Rincon Mountain bike with a rack over the rear tire (2017-11469)
August 12th—Grey Norco Katmandu mountain bike with yellow letters. (2017-11500)
The Comox Valley RCMP would like to remind bike owners to record the serial numbers and good descriptions of bikes. With the serial numbers, the bikes can be entered onto the RCMP computer system. This will aid in getting your bike back to you if it is located.
On August 11th, the Comox Valley RCMP received a report of the theft of an Electric Bicycle. The bike was parked overnight, in a fenced outside storage shed, located on the 600 block of Comox Road, in Comox, when stolen. The bike is described as being a white Pedego City Commuter Step through 48 volt bike. It also has a brown single rider seat and CVRD decals on it.
While making patrols in Courtenay, along Back Road on August 13th, the manner in which a motorcycle was being operated, caught the attention of a Comox Valley RCMP officer. A traffic stop was conducted and an impaired operation of a motor vehicle investigation was initiated. It was found that the rider had consumed alcohol before operating the Motorcycle. As a result, the rider was issued a 3 day Immediate Roadside Prohibition, as well as violation tickets for no insurance, speeding and no driver’s license. (2017-11551)
During the early morning hours of August 14th, the Comox Valley RCMP received a report of a person slumped over in their vehicle, parked at a business in Courtenay. A Comox Valley RCMP officer attended and located the vehicle and driver. The driver was woken up and found to be in care and control of the vehicle, while intoxicated. The driver was issued a 90 day Immediate Roadside suspension and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days. (2017-11582)
A break, enter and theft was reported to the Comox Valley RCMP on August 14th. Sometime over the weekend, unknown person(s) had cut a wire fence at a business located on the 2200 block of Cliffe Avenue, in Courtenay. Once inside the compound, a storage area was entered and product was stolen. The Integrated Forensic Identification Section is assisting with this investigation. (2017-11590)
