News Stories for 2017-08-01 – 2017-08-07

The week of August 1st to August 7th, the Comox Valley RCMP responded to 11 calls for theft from vehicles. Items taken from these vehicles included a Laptop computer, a tool box, change, a brief case, an iPad, licence plates, a cellphone and charger and a wallet. The Comox Valley RCMP is asking that if this occurs to you, please report it, so the crime statistics can be as accurate as possible, but please lock your car doors. The majority of these thefts can be deterred, simply by locking your doors and not leaving anything of value in your vehicle.

From August 1st to August 8th, the Comox Valley RCMP received five reports of stolen bicycles. The following bikes are still outstanding:

July 22nd – Black 2012 Norco Valence Alloy with 54cm wheels and a red bottle holder (2017-10748)
August 2nd – Purple Grit Scooter (2017-10840)
August 3rd – Blue CCM Mountain bike, has a silver bell on the handles bars (2017-10875)
August 3rd– Black Norco Dirt Jumper 27 speed Mens bike (2017-10895)
August 4th— Blue Renegade ladies Mountain Bike (2017-10947)
The Comox Valley RCMP would like to remind bike owners to record the serial numbers and good descriptions of bikes. With the serial numbers, the bikes can be entered onto the RCMP computer system. This will aid in getting your bike back to you if it is located.

While on patrol in the Comox area, on August 1st, a traffic stop was conducted by a Comox Valley RCMP constable. An impaired operation of a motor vehicle investigation was quickly initiated. It was determined that the driver had consumed alcohol before driving. As a result, the driver was issued a seven day Immediate Roadside Prohibition.

On August 1st, while driving south bound on Highway 19, a Comox Valley RCMP constable noticed a north bound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. It was determined that the vehicle was travelling at 167 km/h in the 120 km/h speed zone. A traffic stop was initiated. The driver was issued an excessive speed violation ticket and the vehicle was impounded for 7 days. (2017-10739)

The Comox Valley RCMP responded to a report of a theft of a vehicle on August 2nd. The White, 2009 Volkswagen Jetta station wagon, had been parked on the 1700 block of Riverside Lane overnight. The vehicle is bearing British Columbia License plate 642PAA. (2017-10787)

The theft of a quad was reported to the Comox Valley RCMP on August 2nd. The 2013 Honda TRX500 had been stolen from a shed located on the 2700 block of Windermere Avenue, Cumberland. The quad id described to have a passenger seat and a light bar mounted on it. (2017-10800)

The Comox Valley RCMP received a report of a mischief that occurred to a building located on the 2300 block of Kilpatrick Avenue, in Courtenay, on August 5th. The officer attended and observed a significant amount of graffiti to all sides of the building. An unknown person(s) had used black spray paint to spray various designs and writing on the exterior walls. (2017-10992)

A pair of kayaks were reported stolen off of Moon Beach, Hornby Island, on August 5th. Sometime during the evening of August 2nd and August 3rd, both Elite brand 12 foot Kayaks were taken off the beach. Both yellow Kayaks are reported to have ‘RUSSELL’ written on the side with a felt pen. (2017-11001)

A business break, enter and theft was reported to the Comox Valley RCMP on August 6th. The building, located on Mount Washington, had been broken into sometime overnight, by an unknown person(s). Once inside, cash and a laptop were stolen. The Comox Valley Forensic Identification Section is assisting with this file. (2017-11063)

On August 7th, while conducting speed enforcement in the Comox Valley area, a Comox Valley RCMP Municipal Traffic Section officer located two vehicles travelling at excessive speeds. The first vehicle, a motorcycle, was found to be travelling at 175 km/h in the 120 km/h speed zone. A traffic stop was initiated and the rider was issued an excessive speed violation ticket. The bike was impounded for seven days. (2017-11150) The second vehicle was found to be travelling 138 km/h in a posted 80 km/h speed zone. This driver was also issued an excessive speed violation ticket and the vehicle was impounded or seven days. (2017-11161)
